The Evolution of RASCBALL...
Still without a name, players referred to the sport as "That one game" or simply "THE GAME". The latter of the two names would initially stick. The sport would continue to be called THE GAME for the first three years of play. After coming to a realization, that the sport would not be able to expand and prosper in the general public's eyes using such a non-traditional sports title, founder Mike Crosky and and original players held a meeting to create a new and improved name.
Various concepts were considered regarding how to properly create a name for the sport. Eventually forming an acronym that expressed what the sport represented was selected. Critical for the naming process was involving the sports origin and how the sport incorporated a high level of athleticism and competition. Those two criteria's were considered unanimously to be the most relevant in selecting a permanent name. The committee gathered on numerous occasions to brainstorm countless words and phrases which fit the criteria. A list of approximately thirty words were concocted and out of those thirty, the committee began to combine several of those thirty to form an acronym. The first letter of each word involved in the acronym would spell out what the sport would be named while ending the term with “Ball” to reiterate to sports fan this was indeed a sport in the traditional sense. For instance, if the sport were to be described as "Alternative Street Athletics", the sport in turn would be called either ASA or ASABall.
During the various discussions approximately 35 names were composed as possible candidates. After a month of brainstorming and trial and error, the three finalists were brought to the table for a wide spread vote. Those involved in the vote, included the founder, players, family members of players, and all around general supporters of the sport. The three finalists were: MITABall (Modern Innovation of Team Athletics), ACMABall (Alternative Competition in Modern Athletics) and RASCBall (Revolution in Athletic Street Competition). As opinions and comments were received, MITABall and RASCBall were the clear cut favorites. ACMABall was knocked out of the running soon after voting initiated, leaving RASC and MITA to battle it out. MITA took a strong lead in the beginning and middle stages of voting. In fact, if MITA would have received only one more tally the first night of voting, you would be visiting www.MITABall.com, rather than the site you are viewing currently. However the next day RASC started to pick up the slack, receiving a slew of votes and it would eventually win out. The sport will now forever be known as RASCBall- Revolution in Athletic Street Competition.
Over time RASCBall has evolved and been refined due to a number of significant changes. New rules have been implemented, various equipment improvements have taken place and the pool of players has matured tremendously. Still in the infant stages in the grand scheme of the sports spectrum, RASCBall has matured into a truly legit athletic competition.
